Safe Paints- Low in VOC's

Barb, This is the first time we are painting since I developed sensitivities so I really need the advice of those with experience. Benjamin Moore is readily available where we live, so might just give it a try. We can try something on a small room first to see how I handle it before painting something major. Yes, even though it is winter we will open the windows wide. The primer you mention sounds good too. Thanks for your help.

I've had terrific results with Benjamin Moore latex and acrylic paints...flat for living areas, and they have kitchen/bath paints too.YMMV...They are not advertised as voc-free, but I can be in the same room while they are being applied. We usually paint when we can open the windows, though. They also have Zinzer Bullseye primer that is great...I think it is alcohol based. Sticks to anything, avoiding the need to sand glossy surfaces or remove oil-based paint...just prime with Bullseye, it dries in less than an hour, paint with latex. We've renovated a few houses, and are very satisfied with Benjamin Moore paints. It's a national chain, I think.

Marlena, do you have Sherwin Williams paint stores? I've used their "Harmony" brand which is 0 VOC and have been pleased plus it's in stock in a local store. I know AFM makes some safer paint also but there are extra shipping charges. ICI Dulux is another brand. The Home Depot around here doesn't have any safe paint.>>take care,>Gail

Marlena, You can also ask for samples from some of the companies. Even it cost you a few dollars you will know if it's safe. What someone told me to do was paint a board and put it near me and see if I had a reaction. The test worked. Why buy something that you can't use. I have bought so much fabric and had reactions. Some is available through a company in Seattle. ** I use Best Paint, Seattle. The owner was so helpful as he is sensitive too. That is why he started the company. For me, I haven't had any problems with it. I even sleep in the same room. Karen K.
